Learn Guitar in 30 Days: My Free Beginner Course in GuitarBuddy Play

30 Days to Your First Songs is a free guitar course for complete beginners: one short lesson a day, with chord diagrams, a mic check and streaks that keep you going.

When people tell me they want to learn guitar, the next question is always the same: “but where do I start?” There are thousands of videos out there, and that’s exactly the problem. Without a plan, most beginners jump around, get overwhelmed and give up in the first few weeks.

So I built a plan. 30 Days to Your First Songs is a free beginner course inside GuitarBuddy Play, my guitar app. One short lesson a day, in the right order, from holding the guitar for the first time to playing real songs.

How it works

  • One lesson a day, about 5 minutes. Short enough to fit in any day, long enough to learn something real.
  • Learn by doing. Each lesson mixes short explanations with quizzes, chord diagrams, play-along exercises and practice timers.
  • Your microphone listens along. In some lessons you play a note and the app checks it, right in your browser. The audio never leaves your device. No mic? Just skip that step.
  • XP, streaks and badges. Earn XP for every lesson, keep your daily streak going, level up and collect badges. It sounds like a game because it is a bit of one, and that’s what keeps you picking up the guitar every day.
  • Wrong answers come back. Got a question wrong? It comes back at the end of the lesson, so you leave knowing it.

What you’ll learn

The course is split into six units:

  1. Getting started: meet your guitar, tune up, your fretting hand, your strumming hand, and reading chord diagrams.
  2. First chords: E minor, A minor, D, G and C, your first chord changes, and the five-chord challenge.
  3. Rhythm: down-up strumming, the campfire pattern, strumming along at 60 BPM and clean chord changes.
  4. Your first progressions: the chord loops behind countless songs, the easy F chord, and using a capo.
  5. Leveling up: E and A major, 7th chords, the 12-bar blues, palm muting and your first riffs.
  6. Graduation: fingerpicking, power chords, building your own practice routine, looking after your guitar, and a final challenge.

The first two units are ready to play now, and I’m adding new lessons regularly. Your progress is saved, so you can pick up right where you left off when the next unit arrives.

Who it’s for

Complete beginners, people who tried before and gave up, and anyone who knows a few chords but never learned the basics properly. You need a guitar (acoustic, electric or classical all work), a phone or computer, and about five minutes a day.

Free, and no sign-up needed

The course is completely free. You don’t need an account to start: just open the app and begin lesson one. If you want to keep your progress across devices, you can save it with Google or your email address later. You can also add GuitarBuddy Play to your phone’s home screen so it works like a normal app.

Tips to get the most out of the course

  • Do one lesson a day, and then play for another ten minutes. The lesson teaches the skill, the extra time makes it stick.
  • Don’t rush ahead. If a chord still buzzes, repeat the lesson tomorrow. There’s no prize for finishing fast.
  • Make sure your guitar is easy to play. High strings and old strings make learning much harder. A guitar setup fixes that, and fresh strings help too.
